History was made in George with the establishment of a cycling club for Thembalethu High on Monday 30 November 2009. House of Ngamathuba(Xhosa word for opportunity), discovered the need for cycling in Thembalethu and decided to pro-actively support cycling in Thembalethu.
 Generous Sponsorship
Pedal Power Association of South Africa donated 10 bicycles with protective headgear. This action triggered the establishment of Thembalethu Bicycle Club. The bicycles were donated to ten learners who will participate as a development team under the support of House of Ngamathuba. The bicycles are owned by the club as it will continuously be used by learners who want to participate in the sport.
 Support for Cycling Club
Continuous training and racing cycling events are the important goals for 2010. The next step is to raise support to get cycling gear like clothes and shoes for these learners for them to become true ambassadors for the sport. Any support is welcome!

In this final event prior to the holiday season the organisers have chosen to showcase the myriad of outdoor activities available in the Garden Route .
Thanks to the cooperation of SANParks, the exhibits will be displayed both on the Common and using part of Wilderness lagoon. Apart from the array of crafts and food on offer as usual, the Expo will include static displays of yachts in full sail from George Lakes Yacht Club, a steam powered river cruiser and caravans. Demonstrations during the day will include paragliding, croquet demonstration and training by the Wilderness Bowling and Croquet Club and a polocrosse demonstration by the Teniqua Polocrosse Club.
Activities on or nearby the lagoon will include canoes for hire, demonstrations of small land yachts and children’s yacht racing from George Lakes Yacht Club. The small land yachts, called ‘Blokarts’ are easy to control and will be available for visitors to experience. Also on the water will be two groups of radio-controlled model yachts which will be competing for honours in inter club competitions.

Organisers Alewijn Dippenaar and Mimi Finestone said that they are looking forward to the day.”We have so many activities available to us in this part of the world. This time we wanted to give the public the opportunity to experience and learn more about some of the out of the ordinary and exciting things to do here on the Garden Route. We hope that visitors to the Expo will use the opportunity to try out something new and, who knows, as a result acquire a new hobby or sport”. The Wilderness Ngamathuba Craft Market will be hosting a classic car display on the Common in the village on Sunday 09 August. The show is the second one in a series of special events that will be held during the winter to increase visibility of the market and involve local residents in activities of common interest.

Ngamathuba market manager Alewijn Dippenaar said that craft business patterns were very seasonal and these events were intended to assist crafters in maintaining business during the quiet winter months. "It is easy for our stallholders to do business during December and early January but, apart from the Easter holidays, the level of sales drops throughout the rest of the year because they are selling mainly to locals. We hope that this initiative will encourage people to travel here from further afield and increase our catchment area of potential customers. We owe our stallholders the opportunity to have a reliable income all year round".

This event will include modern, veteran and vintage vehicles from the USA, UK and Germany. Many performance vehicles will be available for visitors to admire including a Cobra, Corvette, Aston Martin, Jaguar E-type, Ford Mustang and a‘James Bond’ style Lotus Esprit. Cars will be grouped by category as British Bulldogs, American Muscle, Group Lotus or Mazda Evolution.

Other events planned during the year include a dog festival in August, Plant Nursery festival in September, ‘Wilderness Extravaganza’ and a sports event in October and an Outdoor Expo in November. In addition there will be a series of Concerts in the Park during September, October and November.

FOOD, ARTS & CRAFT TRADING OPPORTUNITY

 HOUSE OF NGAMATHUBA
