Classic cars on display in Wilderness
By Bob Hopkin Garden Route Correspondent
The Wilderness Ngamathuba Craft Market will be hosting a classic car display on the Common in the village on Sunday 09 August. The show is the second one in a series of special events that will be held during the winter to increase visibility of the market and involve local residents in activities of common interest.
Ngamathuba market manager Alewijn Dippenaar said that craft business patterns were very seasonal and these events were intended to assist crafters in maintaining business during the quiet winter months. "It is easy for our stallholders to do business during December and early January but, apart from the Easter holidays, the level of sales drops throughout the rest of the year because they are selling mainly to locals. We hope that this initiative will encourage people to travel here from further afield and increase our catchment area of potential customers. We owe our stallholders the opportunity to have a reliable income all year round".
This event will include modern, veteran and vintage vehicles from the USA, UK and Germany. Many performance vehicles will be available for visitors to admire including a Cobra, Corvette, Aston Martin, Jaguar E-type, Ford Mustang and a‘James Bond’ style Lotus Esprit. Cars will be grouped by category as British Bulldogs, American Muscle, Group Lotus or Mazda Evolution.
Other events planned during the year include a dog festival in August, Plant Nursery festival in September, ‘Wilderness Extravaganza’ and a sports event in October and an Outdoor Expo in November. In addition there will be a series of Concerts in the Park during September, October and November.
